Pre-Purchase Surveys
PRE-PURCHASE SURVEYS
Buying a yacht is a significant investment — and a pre-purchase survey is how you make sure you know exactly what you’re getting into before you sign anything.
We conduct a thorough, hands-on inspection of the vessel covering everything that matters: hull and structural integrity, mechanical and propulsion systems, electrical wiring and panels, plumbing, safety equipment, interior condition, and for sailing yachts, the rig and sails. If the vessel is registered in Singapore, we benchmark safety equipment against MPA requirements. Where appropriate, we’ll take her out on the water — because some things only show themselves underway.
What you get at the end is a detailed, plain-English report that tells you the condition of the boat, flags any deficiencies or safety concerns, and gives you clear recommendations on what needs attention. That report is yours to use however you need — to negotiate the price, request repairs, or simply decide whether this is the right boat for you.
A good survey doesn’t just protect your money. It tells you the truth about the boat.
1. Inspection of the Hull and Structure:
Our surveyor will thoroughly examine the hull, superstructure, and other structural components of the yacht, looking for signs of damage, cracks, blisters, delamination, and corrosion. The condition of the yacht’s bottom paint and anti-fouling coatings may also be assessed.
2. Mechanical Systems Evaluation:
The yacht’s engines, propulsion systems, transmissions, and generators are inspected to assess their condition, including any signs of wear, leaks, or malfunctions.
Our surveyor may perform sea trials to evaluate the engines’ performance and the yacht’s handling characteristics.
3. Electrical and Plumbing Systems Check:
The electrical systems, wiring, circuit panels, and equipment are examined for functionality, compliance with safety standards, and any potential issues.
Plumbing systems, including freshwater, wastewater, and sewage systems, are checked for leaks, blockages, or malfunctions.
4. Safety Equipment Review:
The presence and condition of safety equipment, such as life jackets, fire extinguishers, life rafts, and emergency signaling devices, are verified.
If the vessel is registered in Singapore, we will use the MPA requirements for safety equipment and devices.
5. Interior and Amenities Assessment:
The interior spaces of the yacht, including the cabins, salons, and galley, are inspected for signs of water intrusion, structural issues, and general condition.
Appliances, fixtures, and amenities are assessed for functionality and condition.
6. Rigging and Sails Inspection (if applicable):
Sailing yachts may undergo a rigging and sails inspection to check for wear, damage, or structural issues in the mast, rigging, and sails.
7. Documentation and Title Verification:
The surveyor reviews the yacht’s documentation, including registration, ownership history, and maintenance records.
8. Detailed Report and Recommendations:
Following the survey, the marine surveyor compiles a comprehensive report detailing their findings, including any deficiencies, safety concerns, or recommended repairs.
The report can be used by the buyer to negotiate the sale price, request repairs, or make an informed decision about the purchase.
It’s important to note that a pre-purchase yacht survey is a critical step for buyers, especially when purchasing pre-owned vessels. The survey provides valuable insights into the yacht’s condition and helps buyers make informed decisions. It can also be used as a contingency in the sales contract, allowing buyers to back out of the deal or negotiate repairs or price adjustments based on the survey findings.
